Many years ago, while living in Panama City, Florida I was offered an opportunity to do what I loved: have my own bookstore.
Well not exactly, so the owner or occupant of this bookstore advised me that she was ill and could no longer run her store. This woman offered me to do it for her. It was everything I had imagined, no, seriously!
Her bookstore was 'internet cafe' style, with a small eatery, and nice furniture, and was in the perfect location. The only thing was, I could not make any changes to it. That was the problem and I think I let that get in my way because that was the deal breaker.
It did not cater to my target audience, meaning I would have had to spend hours on end, serving others that were not like myself. I wanted to see things in the store that looked like me with my aesthetics so it would invite those I would consider like-minded into the store.
While I understood I was being taken under the woman's wing, I needed her words to mean what they were saying as she told me that I would take over the store and ownership.
In all honesty, I was afraid that I would be able to handle her traffic. So, I declined.
But a couple of weeks later, she called me back and said, "Okay, you can make the changes that you need to, just allow me to see your plans so that I may help you to transition over the changes you would like to see."
I was happy about that and we had a discussion about my vision. I told her that I would need to reach out to an investor and as they advised before they would do anything to help.
I guess too much time had passed because they did not help with it and I had to decline again. She and I were heartbroken!
She offered to give me everything! And right before I could find a place for the items, Hurricane Michael destroyed the area.
I suffered so much regret!
But Spirit told me to forgive myself over and over again. Until I did.
And the opportunity presented itself for me to have a bookstore that did not require the insecurity and asking for help to fund. I could grow it how I needed to.
Who knows someday, I may improve my options but for now, I am thankful to know that other opportunities are available for me to sell books in an 'internet cafe' style, with a small eatery, and nice furniture, and in the perfect location (from my mind to your where ever you are in the world) sipping your favorite beverage, on your own comfy couch reading, or journaling books I have written so that I can be a wife, homeschool-plant mom, and crafter that I was born to be.
